Specifications of Regular White Widow and How Male Plants Differ
The table gives figures for the female plants in a regular pack, which are identical to the feminized plant in potency, yield and timing.
Male plants are listed separately because they behave differently: they flower a week or two earlier, grow taller and thinner, and produce pollen rather than resin. Ranges reflect phenotype variation, which is wider in regular seed than in an inbred feminized line — that spread is part of what breeders are buying. The grow and sexing guide explains how to tell the two apart in time.

Why Regular Seed Is the Closest Thing to the Original White Widow
When Scott Blakey — Shantibaba — crossed a Brazilian sativa landrace with a South Indian indica in Amsterdam in the early 1990s, the result was a regular seed line, because no other kind existed. Green House Seeds released it, Arjan Roskam built the company’s reputation on it, and the 1995 High Times Cannabis Cup win fixed it in the canon. Every plant that competed, every clone that passed between Dutch growers, and every parent used to breed White Russian, Blue Widow, Moby Dick and White Rhino came from regular seed.
Feminized seed, which arrived at the end of that decade, is produced by reversing a female plant to make pollen. It is reliable, but it narrows the line to the two females involved and removes the male half of the gene pool. Regular seed keeps that half. This is why breeders and preservationists insist on it: a male White Widow carries traits — vigor, branching, resin inheritance — that cannot be recovered from feminized stock. It is also why Shantibaba, after leaving Green House for Mr. Nice Seedbank, continued his original selection as Black Widow in regular form only. The regular line sold here is maintained by open pollination among selected males and females every few generations, which keeps the population broad rather than inbred.
The male White Widow: what breeders look for
A good male shows the traits a breeder wants to pass on: early vigor, tight internodes, strong branching, and — the test that matters — resin glands on the stem and calyx-like structures of the male flowers, which correlate with resin in the daughters. Males that stretch excessively, flower very early or show any female flowers are removed. Of ten or twelve males in a pack, a breeder typically keeps one or two for pollen; the rest are culled before they open. Pollen from a chosen male, dried and frozen, remains viable for a year or more.
Descendants bred from regular White Widow
- White Russian — White Widow × AK-47 (Serious Seeds); regular and feminized.
- Blue Widow — White Widow × Blueberry (Dinafem); sativa-leaning.
- Moby Dick — White Widow × Haze; tall, very high yield.
- White Rhino — White Widow × North American indica (Green House).
- Black Widow — Shantibaba’s continuation of the original (Mr. Nice); regular only.
Effect and Potency of Plants Grown From Regular Seed
A female plant from regular seed is, in effect and potency, the same White Widow as any feminized plant — the genetics are identical, and only the sex-determination route differs.
What regular seed adds is variation: within a pack of twenty-five, a grower will see phenotypes that lean a few points toward sativa or indica, which is the raw material for selecting a keeper.
Phenotype spread: sativa-leaning and indica-leaning expressions
Most plants fall at the strain’s center — a quick cerebral onset followed by body relaxation, two to three hours, no couch-lock at moderate doses. Perhaps one in five leans sativa: taller, longer flowering by a week, a more energetic and talkative effect. Another one in five leans indica: shorter, denser buds, heavier relaxation in the second hour. A breeder choosing a mother decides which expression to lock in. Side effects across all phenotypes are dry mouth and dry eyes, with mild anxiety at high doses reported by a minority of low-tolerance users. Effects vary with tolerance, dose and cultivation, and reports of help with stress or appetite are user accounts rather than medical findings.
THC in regular-seed females
Lab-tested females from this line fall between 20% and 25% THC, within the family’s 18–26% range; the spread between individual plants is wider than in feminized seed — a 20% plant and a 25% plant can come from the same pack. CBD is below 1%. Males contribute no usable cannabinoid content. Growers wanting a milder plant can find the CBD 1:1 version in the seed types section; breeder figures are in the table below.
Terpene inheritance through the male line
Myrcene, caryophyllene and pinene define the aroma — earthy, peppery and pine — with limonene, linalool and humulene beneath. Terpene expression is heritable through both parents, and a male that smells strongly of pine when its stem is rubbed is more likely to pass a strong profile to its offspring. This “stem rub” test is one of the few ways to assess terpenes in a plant that will never flower. Female plants are strongly aromatic from the fourth week of flower; indoor rooms need a carbon filter.

Growing Regular White Widow Seeds: Sexing, Selection and Seed-Making
The cultivation itself is the same easy, mold-resistant White Widow grow as any photoperiod plant. What changes is the workflow.
The grower must identify sex in early flower, remove or isolate males before they shed pollen, and — if the goal is seed — manage pollination deliberately. The guide covers both the standard flower-only path and the breeder’s path. Temperatures are in both scales; outdoor timings assume the northern hemisphere.

Germination and vegetative growth
Paper-towel germination at 21–25 °C (70–77 °F) in the dark produces a taproot in one to five days and is the method the guarantee requires. Seedlings start in small pots on 18/6 light, 65–70% humidity, no feed until the third set of true leaves. Veg runs four to eight weeks at 20–28 °C (68–82 °F) with a nitrogen-leaning feed. Because half the plants will be removed, growers start twice as many seeds as they want finished plants and give each only moderate space until sex is known. Topping is held until after sexing so effort is not spent on males.
Sexing plants: pre-flowers and the first two weeks of 12/12
Some plants show sex in late veg: at the fourth to sixth node, a tiny structure appears at the branch junction. The reliable moment is seven to fourteen days after the flip to 12/12, when every plant declares.
A teardrop-shaped calyx with one or two white hairs (pistils) emerging. Pistils are the confirmation; a calyx with no hairs needs another two days.
A round, smooth ball on a short stalk, no hairs, soon joined by others in a cluster like a bunch of grapes. Males open and shed pollen within two to three weeks of appearing.
Any plant showing both structures is a hermaphrodite and is removed regardless of intended use. Males not wanted for breeding are cut the day they are identified; pollen travels on air, clothes and fans, and a single open male can seed a whole room.
Flowering the females for bud
With males gone, the remaining plants flower as any feminized White Widow: 8–10 weeks at 20–26 °C (68–79 °F), humidity falling from 50% to 40%, feed moving to phosphorus and potassium, carbon filter running from week four, stakes for heavy colas from week six. Harvest at mostly cloudy trichomes with 10–20% amber; dry seven to ten days at 15–21 °C (60–70 °F); cure two to four weeks.
Making your own White Widow seed
- Week 3–4 of flower
Isolate the male and collect pollen
Move the selected male to a separate space with its own air; let it open and collect pollen on paper or foil, then dry it for a day.
- Week 2–3 of flower
Choose the mother
Choose the best female (or several) at two to three weeks into flower, when pistils are fresh and white.
- One session
Pollinate a few lower branches
Apply pollen with a soft brush to a few lower branches only, so the rest of the plant stays seedless; mist the room off for a day first and keep fans down.
- 5–6 weeks
Label and let the seeds mature
Label the branch. Seeds mature in five to six weeks, turning dark and striped; harvest when they resist a fingernail.
- 2 weeks
Dry and store
Dry seeds two weeks, then store cool, dark and dry. A single pollinated branch yields 50–200 seeds.

Regular Seed Against Feminized, Autoflower and Fast White Widow
Regular seed is the cheapest and the most genetically complete, and the only type that produces males. Feminized photoperiod seed gives the same females with no sexing. Autoflower seed finishes in 10–12 weeks at under a meter but cannot be cloned or bred conventionally. The fast version is a feminized photoperiod line a week quicker to finish. A CBD 1:1 White Widow with about 7% THC and 7% CBD exists in feminized and auto form for growers who want a mild plant.

Who should buy regular White Widow seeds
Breeders, anyone hunting a keeper mother from a wide phenotype pool, growers with space to start twice as many seedlings as they will finish, and growers for whom price per seed matters more than convenience. A grower who wants only flower, has limited space or cannot commit to checking plants daily in early flower is better served by the feminized or autoflower packs.

Fewer seed banks sell regular White Widow than feminized, and the versions differ more, because regular lines are maintained by selection rather than fixed by reversal. The table reports breeder-published figures without ranking.
| Breeder | Version | THC (females) | Flowering | Yield | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mr. Nice Seedbank | Black Widow (regular) | 18–22% | 8–10 weeks | High | Shantibaba’s original selection; regular only; wide phenotype range |
| Dutch Passion | White Widow regular | 22–26% | 8–9 weeks | Good | Classic F1 line; uniform; often out of stock |
| Green House Seeds | White Widow (regular, limited) | 18–19% | 9 weeks | High | Original name holder; sativa-leaning |
| Paradise Seeds | Original White Widow IBL (regular release) | 20%+ | 8–9 weeks | 500 g/m² | Inbred line; narrow spread, 50/50 ratio |
| Breeder Regular Seeds | White Widow regular | 20–25% lab-tested | 8–10 weeks | 400–500 g/m² / 600 g per plant | Open-pollinated population from Dutch Passion-derived stock; males selected for resin and structure |
The in-house regular line is maintained as a population: every three generations, twenty selected females are open-pollinated by six selected males, and seed is taken from all of them. This keeps vigor and phenotype breadth that an inbred line loses. Growers seeking the narrowest, most uniform regular White Widow should look at Paradise’s IBL; those seeking the original selection, Mr. Nice.

Germination guarantee on regular packs
Ninety percent germination on every pack. If fewer than nine seeds in ten sprout using the paper-towel method in the guide, support is contacted within 30 days of delivery with a description and, where possible, a photo; replacements ship free. Sex ratio is not guaranteed — it is biological and averages 50/50 across a pack, but a 10-pack can produce three females or seven. Growers who need a fixed number of females should buy the 25-pack or feminized seed.
Bonus seeds and bulk pricing
Two bonus seeds on every order, four over $100, six over $150 and ten over $250; the bonus strain rotates monthly. Buyers of 50 or more regular seeds receive same-strain bonus seeds so populations stay uniform, and wholesale quotes are available for larger quantities.

← Back to contentsLegal Status of Regular Seeds, Breeding and Responsible Use
What is sold
Regular seeds are sold as collectible genetic material. Ungerminated seeds contain no meaningful THC. In the United States cannabis seeds are hemp under the 2018 Farm Bill, as the DEA confirmed in January 2022; in many countries seed possession is legal while cultivation is separately regulated.
The buyer’s responsibility
Rules on germination, plant counts and producing seed differ by country, state and province. Male plants count as plants wherever plants are counted. Buyers must check local law before germinating. Nothing here is legal advice.
Age and health
Sales are restricted to adults of legal age in their jurisdiction (18 or 21). Effect descriptions are user reports, not evaluated by any medical regulator; anyone with a health condition should seek professional advice.
Growers who intend to breed should also note that pollen does not respect property lines; in regions with licensed cultivation, stray pollen that seeds a neighbor’s crop can create liability. See FAQ question 9.
Breeders and Growers on Regular White Widow
Reviews are from verified purchasers of this seed bank’s regular seeds and include sex ratio and dry weight where reported. Negative reviews remain published and are answered; germination complaints are handled under the guarantee.
Six females, four males. Kept one male for pollen and made my own seeds on two lower branches — about 180. The plants are uniform, which is what you want from regulars.
Twenty-three up, eleven female. Found a pine-heavy sativa-leaning pheno I’ve kept as a mother; she’s on her fourth round of clones. Worth the whole pack for that one plant.
Planted the lot in a field, pulled males over two weeks in February. Twenty-six females averaged 550 g. At this price per seed nothing else makes sense for a plot.
Three females out of nine — bad luck on the ratio, but the three were excellent, 95 g each. Next time I’ll buy the 25.
Selected two males by stem rub and structure, crossed to a Blueberry female. F1s are flowering now and the resin is clearly from the Widow side.
Missed a male by two days and seeded one female lightly. Entirely my fault — the guide says check daily. Other four females were seedless and excellent.
Regular White Widow Seeds: Breeder and Grower Questions
How long do regular White Widow plants take to flower?
Females flower 8–10 weeks (55–65 days) after the 12/12 switch; males declare sex within 7–14 days of the flip and shed pollen two to three weeks later. Total time from seed for females is 16–20 weeks.
What yield can I expect from a regular pack?
Each female gives the same as a feminized plant: 400–500 g/m² indoors or 500–600 g per plant outdoors. A 10-pack typically produces four or five females. The pack table above does the arithmetic.
How potent are plants from regular seed?
Females test at 20–25% THC, with CBD under 1%. Plant-to-plant spread is wider than in feminized seed, which is what makes selection possible.
Is White Widow indica or sativa?
A balanced hybrid, slightly indica-leaning at about 60/40. In regular seed roughly one plant in five leans further toward either parent.
Are regular seeds suitable for beginners?
The plant itself is easy. The requirement to identify and remove males in early flower makes regular seed a medium-difficulty choice; beginners who want flower only should start with feminized or autoflower seed.
Regular or feminized — which should I buy?
Regular for breeding, mother hunting and the lowest price per seed; feminized when every plant must be productive and sexing is unwanted. The comparison table sets out the trade-offs.
How do I germinate regular White Widow seeds?
Paper-towel method at 21–25 °C in the dark; taproot in one to five days; sow root-down 1 cm deep. Start twice as many seeds as finished plants wanted.
Is there a germination guarantee, and is the sex ratio guaranteed?
Germination is guaranteed at 90% with free replacements under the paper-towel method. Sex ratio averages 50/50 but is not guaranteed on any single pack. Terms are in the order section.
Is it legal to buy regular seeds and breed where I live?
Seeds are legal to buy as collectibles in many countries while germination and seed production are regulated separately; in some countries both are prohibited. The seed bank does not ship where import is banned and buyers remain responsible for local law. See the legal section.
How long does shipping take and is it discreet?
Dispatch within one business day in unbranded packaging; 3–7 days to North America, 3–8 to Europe, 7–20 elsewhere, all tracked. See the shipping table.
What payment methods are accepted?
Visa, Mastercard, Bitcoin, USDT, bank transfer, and cash or money order by post. Crypto and cash are anonymous and fee-free.
How do I tell male from female White Widow plants?
Seven to fourteen days after the flip, females show teardrop calyxes with white hairs; males show smooth round balls on stalks with no hairs. Remove males the day they are identified unless kept for pollen in a separate space.
How much do regular White Widow seeds cost?
From $4.90 per seed in a 10-pack down to $3.29 in a 100-pack; the 25- and 50-packs are $3.96 and $3.58 per seed. Bonus seeds are added to every order.
